The short answer is Yes. Identity theft is becoming an exact science, and friendly sites like Facebook are a great tool for cyber crooks.
If your Facebook Friend is one you know personally, you don't have to worry (right?). But too many Facebook users happily accept offers of friendship from people they've never heard of. Bad idea. Very Bad.
